Lexical typology and semantic maps: Perspectives and challenges

Abstract The paper outlines the basics of data collection, analysis and visualization under frame-based approach to lexical typology illustrates its methodology using cross-linguistic research on verbs falling. framework reveals several challenges semantic map modelling that usually escape researchers’ attention. These are: (1) principles establishing comparative concepts; (2) effective ways for opposition between direct figurative meanings items; (3) problem borderlines fields, which seem be very subtle. problems are discussed in detail paper, as well possible theoretical decisions techniques could overcome these bottlenecks.
